Cougar comeback downs Dinos

| By:
CALGARY - The University of Calgary Dinos could not protect their home turf on Sunday afternoon, losing to the Regina Cougars by a score of 2-1.

The Cougars managed to answer Caitlin Milne's first half goal with markers from Megan Florizone and Tegan Koroluk, who iced it midway through the second half.

Unlucky yet again after an otherwise solid afternoon, Kristen Barton made seven saves in the loss, while Regina goalkeeper Michelle Anderson made eight stops in a terrific outing for the fourth year keeper.

Caitlin Milne, who made the move from her normal defensive position up to forward, had a very strong afternoon for the Dinos, registering three shots on goal with one getting past Anderson to put Calgary up early.

In her one mistake of the game, Anderson misjudged a beautiful cross from third year midfielder Sheila Morrison over-running as it sailed past her outstretched hands. Milne would make her pay for the gaffe, heading it in easily from her position at the far post.

Fifth year striker Morena Ianniello led the charge offensively for the Dinos over the duration of the match, with five quality shots on goal and three other good chances.

Regina took over after Milne's strike however, using a goal amidst a scrum around Barton in the first half to generate momentum for the visiting squad. Barton made the initial save off the cross from the corner kick, but neither her or her defenders could clear it, which Florizone would bury to knot it up at one.

Both Regina and Calgary would have later chances, as a hard shot by Ianniello was blocked by both Anderson and then the cross-bar, while Dinos defender Jaclyn Hunter poked a certain scoring opportunity away from Cougars forward Kimbi Wiebe with Barton scrambling to get position.

Koroluk would seal the deal in the 69th minute, hitting Barton with a hard shot on a run down the right side which skipped over the prone goaltender and trickled over the line.

The Cougars improve to 2-3-1 and will now return home to face Alberta and Saskatchewan next weekend. Calgary drops to a disappointing 1-4-1, and will engage in a home-and-home series with the Lethbridge Pronghorns next week, where they will go south on Saturday before returning home on Sunday.
