Men's soccer grabs tie to end prairie road trip

| By:
SASKATOON - Two first half goals resulted in a 1-1 tie between the visiting University of Calgary Dinos and the University of Saskatchewan Huskies Sunday on Field 7 in Saskatoon's PotashCorp Park.

BOX SCORE

Calgary opened the scoring first when Brian Delaney was able to beat Huskie keeper Mark Diakiw after a corner kick put the Dinos in front of the net in the 34th minute. Christian Lorenzoni and Izak Lawrence were given the assists on the play. The Huskies tied the game in the 45 minute on a Paul Craig goal assisted by Josh Northey.

The best chances in the second half to break the tie came within seconds of each other. Calgary found themselves with two quick shots on goal after a Matt Reid corner kick in the 80th minute. Delaney made the quick kick toward the net that Diakiw was able to knock down. The ball was then put on Dino Brett Howard's foot. Diakiw was once again able to get his hands on the ball. Off the kick from Diakiw down the field, Huskie Austin Boryski was alone with the ball in the 81st minute. His shot went right into the hands of Dinos' keeper JP Crescenzi.

Diakiw made six saves for the Huskies in the match, while Crescenzi stopped five for the Dinos. Saskatchewan outshot the Dinos 15-13 in the match. The Huskies doubled the Dinos' shots in the second half at 8-4.

With the tie, both Saskatchewan and Calgary sit at 2-1-1 in the standings.

The Huskies travel to B.C. to meet the University of Fraser Valley Cascades and the University of Victoria Vikes next weekend, while Calgary is at home to host the UBC Thunderbirds and the Trinity Western University Spartans.
