WINNIPEG - Catie Gooch scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Winnipeg Wesmen to a 55-51 victory over the Calgary Dinos Saturday evening at the Duckworth Centre in Winnipeg.

The victory completes a two game sweep for the Wesmen, who improve to 3-0 on the season. The loss drops Calgary to 1-5.
Gooch finished the contest with five three-pointers, five rebounds, and a perfect six-for-six from the free throw line. First year guard Stephanie Kleysen recorded her third straight double-double scoring 13 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.
Alex Cole and
Ashley Hill each scored 11 points to lead Calgary. Cole and
Megan Schaufele had six rebounds.
Ashley Hill opened the contest scoring seven points in the opening four minutes to lead the Dinos to a 14-11 lead after the opening ten minutes of play.
Calgary continued to carry the momentum in the second quarter scoring six un-answered points to lead 20-11 early in the quarter. Catie Gooch than found her game, scoring 11 points in a span of over five minutes to cut the Dino lead to 28-25 with under two minutes to play in the opening half. The teams exchanged baskets for the remaning 1:20 as Calgary led at halftime 33-29.
In the third quarter Calgary held the lead for the opening 4:15 until a two pointer by Kleysen gave the Wesmen their first lead of the game at 37-36 with just over five minutes to play in the third quarter. Winnipeg led 42-40 after three quarters.
The stubborn Calgary squad opened the final quarter with six straight points to take the lead back at 46-42. Winnipeg regrouped outscoring the Dino's 9-5 to tie the score at 51-51 with 2:34 left to play. After a technical foul charged to Calgary's bench, Gooch drained two free-throws to give the Wesmen a 53-51 lead. Calgary had a chance to tie the score but
Ashley Hill missed two free throws with 25 seconds left. Kleysen clinched the game with 12 seconds left as she was succesfull on two free throws.
Winnipeg (3-0) will travel out west next week for a two game series against the UBC Thunderbirds Friday and Saturday in Vancouver. Calgary will have the bye next week and will host Brandon on Nov. 19 and 20.
