ABBOTSFORD, B.C. - The Calgary Dinos got the road win they needed Saturday, defeating the Fraser Valley Cascades 2-1 at Bateman Park to guarantee at least third place in the final conference standings.
BOX SCORE
Brett Howard opened the scoring just 150 seconds into the contest, converting a feed from
Dylan Tooby, and
Izak Lawrence scored the game-winner on a penalty kick early in the second half.
The win improves Calgary's record to 8-3-2 on the season as they head to Victoria for a Sunday matinee against the Vikes. It makes 2010 the first eight-win season in program history, and it guarantees the Dinos will finish no worse than third in the standings.
Having sewn up a date at next weekend's Canada West Final Four to be hosted in Edmonton, the Dinos will prepare to face the UBC Thunderbirds in a conference semi-final.
As winners of the conference regular season pennant, the Golden Bears have already assured themselves of a spot at the national tournament in Toronto. Should Alberta win their semi-final next weekend, the winner of the Calgary-UBC game will also advance to the CIS championship.
First, however, the Dinos wrap up their season-ending road trip with a trip to the Island to face the Victoria Vikes Sunday afternoon.
