Dinos dropped by 16 at UVic

| By:
VICTORIA - With a wild student section willing them to victory, the UVic Vikes women's basketball team did not disappoint in their home opener with a 73-57 romp over the Calgary Dinos.

BOX SCORE

Three Vikes players reached double digit scoring totals, led by an 18-point, 13-rebound performance from former CIS Player of the Year Kala Dykstra.

Carmen Lapthorne was the offensive catalyst in the first half, scoring nine of her 13 points before entering the break with a 34-28 lead. Debbie Yeboah took over in the late stages, scoring 10 of her 14 points in the fourth quarter to stave off any hopes of a Calgary comeback.

Megan Lang was the lone Dinos scorer in double-figures with the senior guard coming off the bench to net 16 points on 7-for-12 shooting. Tamara Jarrett added seven points and a Calgary high eight rebounds.

Calgary was a force on the offensive glass with 20 'boards, and had fewer turnovers (18-24) but were hamstrung by poor production from the perimeter. The Dinos made just 4 of 28 attempts, and their reliance on the long ball led to a 31 percent shooting performance.

The two sides complete the weekend series Saturday. Tip off is scheduled for 6 p.m. MT.
