REGINA – Ryan Sawka scored two goals including the game winner as the University of Regina's men's hockey team completed a two-game weekend sweep over the Calgary Dinos with a 4-2 win on Saturday at the Sherwood Ice Sports Centre.

BOX SCORE

Sawka scored late in the second period to give the Cougars a 3-0 lead, but Calgary got goals from Brock Nixon and Dan Ehrman in the latter stages of the third to cut the deficit to just one. Sawka iced the game with an empty net goal in the final minute of the game.

Justin Scott opened the scoring for Regina in the first period and Carter Smith extended the Cougars' lead with his sixth goal of the season midway through the second. Third-year forward Dillon Johnstone assisted on both of Sawka's goals.

Brant Hilton made 29 saves for the Cougars, while Calgary's Dustin Butler stopped 18 of 21 shots sent his way.

The win, which gives the Cougars nine out of a possible 12 points since the Christmas break, improves Regina's record to 8-11-1 and moves the U of R into sixth place in the Canada West standings. Calgary drops to 10-9-5 with the loss.

The Cougars will host Manitoba (13-7-2) next weekend in Regina, while Calgary will have a weekend off before travelling to Saskatchewan on Feb. 12 and 13.
