CALGARY - While victories for the Dinos have been hard to come by in recent memory at Hawkings Field, Calgary kicked off their home-opener in grand fashion, out-hustling the Alberta Pandas on Saturday in a 3-2 victory before dropping a 4-2 decision on Sunday.
The Dinos, after being shutout in both of their games against UBC two weekends ago, found their offensive touch against Alberta, and got it from a host of different players.
Kaitlyn Longworth scored two goals on the weekend, while
Serena Lockhart,
Meaghan Kemmler, and
Courtney Campbell each scored one. Rookie forward
Keara Chicquen had two assists and made her presence felt early in her CIS career.
While excited about their early season victory, the Dinos will need to refocus against a tough Victoria Vikes team, which won the CIS championship in 2008.
The Vikes dropped both of their games against the UBC Thunderbirds this past weekend, and while tied for second with the Alberta at 1-2-1, will certainly be motivated to prove they are better than their record suggests.
In order to do so, the Vikes will need much more scoring, as through four games they've only received one goal from their veteran forward Natalie Wise.
The two-game set on the Island opens Saturday afternoon at Wright Field and concludes Sunday, with both games facing off at 1 p.m. MT.
