Bisons no match for dominant Dinos

| By:
WINNIPEG - The No. 3 University of Calgary Dinos won their second in a row against the University of Manitoba Bisons in men's basketball action Saturday, taking an 89-64 decision at the Investors Group Athletic Centre.

BOX SCORE

With the win, the Dinos improve to 4-0 record while the Bisons drop to 1-3 in the young conference season.

The Dinos started the game hard on the boards with 10 rebounds, four of which were offensive. Those rebounds helped Calgary pull ahead early in the contest. The Bisons were playing with the same intensity that they played with the previous night, but couldn't enough open shots against the third best defence in the Canada West conference. Both teams shot just over 50 percent from the field, but Calgary made three more shots and held a 29-21 lead at the break.

Manitoba tried to keep it close in the second quarter, but the Bisons couldn't overcome the Dinos rebounding. They were having trouble generating key shots and only mustered 15 points in the quarter.

Calgary came out hungry in the third quarter, stifling the Bisons offence and embarking on a 20-5 run that lasted nearly eight minutes. The Herd couldn't buy a shot as they were a brutal 19 percent from the floor. Two of the four shots the Bisons did hit were three's.

The last quarter was much of the same as the third. The Dinos continued to dominate on the boards and on the scoreboard. The Bisons frustration was clearly visible as their shots just would not fall on a night where nothing seemed to be going their way. The Dinos cruised the rest of the way to the victory.

Calgary's leading scorer was Tyler Fidler, who had 20 points and eight rebounds. Robbie Sihota chipped in with 19 points.

The Bisons were led by Nathan Dixon`s 12 points and eight assists and three other Bisons players made double digits in points.

Now a perfect 7-0 on the season, including a 4-0 mark in conference play, the Dinos return home to face the Fraser Valley Cascades and Thompson Rivers WolfPack next weekend in the Jack Simpson Gym.
