LANGLEY, British Columbia – Led by 25 points from Ashley Hill, the University of Calgary Dinos were able to overcome a blistering offensive performance from Lauren Doubroff, as they beat the Trinity Western Spartans by a score of 89-78. The win moves the Dinos to 6-3, while the loss drops the Spartans to 2-5.

Fifth year forward Doubroff of Surrey, B.C. hit a personal best, a Canada West season high and scored the second most points in the history of Trinity Western University women's basketball with 31 points, but it was not enough on Friday night.
The visiting Dinos started strong and after a pair of foul shots by Tilly Ettinger of Calgary they led 15-8 at the five minute mark of the first quarter. Doubroff led the Spartans back and with 3:40 remaining TWU closed the margin to three points after a 6-2 run. Calgary's Tamara Jarrett hit a lay-up as the clock was expiring to make the score 25-20 for the Dinos at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter was back-and-forth with three major runs. Leading 29-26 the Dinos went on a seven point run to take a 10 point lead, 36-26 with less than 4:30 remaining in the half. Doubroff once again led the Spartans back. In just over a minute and a half she scored eight straight points to cut the Dinos lead to two points, 36-34, with 3:12 remaining. Once again the Dinos responded with 9-2 run, including an Ashley Hill of Airdrie, Alta. three pointer as the clock was winding down, to lead 45-36 at the half. Douroff had a solid first half with 16 points and five rebounds for TWU, while Hill with 14 points countered for the Dinos.
The third quarter the two teams continued the scoring runs. The Dinos came out and dominated the play to extend their lead to 17 points, 55-38, after a 10-2 run three minutes into the second half. But once again the Spartans responded. TWU outscored Calgary 19-10 to trail by eight 65-57 entering the fourth quarter.
TWU came out strong and closed the gap to five points, 67-62 with just over eight minutes remaining. The Dinos settled and gradually took control of the final quarter and built their lead to 11 points, 81-70 with three and a half minutes remaining. The Spartans used a variety of different defences to pressure the Dinos and close the gap, but were unable to get the baskets they needed as Calgary closed out the 11 point victory.
Also contributing for the Spartans were Emily Knauff of Maple Ridge, B.C. with 17 points, six assists and five rebounds and Tiffany Olsen of Fanny Bay, B.C. with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Leading the way for the Dinos were Hill with 25 points, and Megan Schaufele of Delta, B.C. and Kaitie Beard of Sherwood Park, Alta. with 16 points each.
Next up for the Spartans is the University of Lethbridge on Saturday, November 28. Game time at the LEC is set for 5 p.m. Next up for Calgary is at Simon Fraser University tomorrow night on Burnaby Mountain.
