Dinos fall to No. 4 Huskies

| By:
SASKATOON - The No. 4 ranked University of Saskatchewan Huskies stopped the best offense in the Canada West with a 97-80 win over the University of Calgary Dinos Friday night in the PAC in Saskatoon.

Calgary never found its rhythm in the game and couldn't play their fast break offense that has been successful throughout the season so far. Entering the game the Dinos averaged 87.8 points per game and scored 115 in their last win. Saskatchewan entered the game with the conference second best defence allowing opponents to average just 58.2 points per game.

The win moves the Huskies to 3-2 on the season, while the Dinos drop to 6-2. It is the eighth game in the row the Huskies have won over the Dinos.

Saskatchewan jumped out with strong offence in the first quarter scoring 25 points. The Huskies scored six points before Robyn Gibson got the Dinos on the board with a three-point shot. The Huskies kept pulling out in front to grow the 15 point lead at 25-10 to end the first quarter.  The Huskies scored the first four points in the second quarter and would not let Calgary back in the game. The Huskies held a 22-point lead at 47-25 heading into the second half.

Calgary shot just 34.6% in the first half, compared to the Huskies 52.8%.

Calgary started to make their way back up the point ladder in midway through the third quarter but the Huskies kept pouring the points right back keeping their large lead. Calgary ended up scoring 29 in the frame but the Huskies had 28 of their own.

The Huskies defence broke down in the fourth quarter allowing the Dinos to score points to get back in the game pulling the lead down to 14. The smallest it had been since the first quarter. But thanks to the early large lead the Dinos couldn't get back in the game.

Huskie Kim Tulloch had a game high 23 points for the Huskies. Dino Alex Cole and Huskie Lindsay DeGroot each had 21 points for their teams in the game. Five more players were in double digits on the night - Jana Spindler had 14 and Jill Humbert had 10 for the Huskies, while Tamara Jarrett had 14, Gibson had 12 and Ashley Hill finished with 11 for the Dinos. Huskies Alicia Wilson, Tulloch and Dino Tilly Ettinger all had six rebounds in the game.

The two teams will battle again Saturday at the PAC. Tip off is 5 p.m. MT. The game will be webcast live at: http://www.educationcdn.com/schools/huskies/
