SASKATOON - The No. 3 ranked University of Calgary Dinos narrowly held on for an 80-76 win over the University of Saskatchewan Huskies Saturday night at the PAC in Saskatoon thanks to 36 points from second team All-Canadian Ross Bekkering.

Saskatchewan entered the fourth quarter down by 10 points at 65-55. The Dinos grew the lead out to 16 points at one point in the quarter but the Huskies were able to battle back and bring the game within three points with two minutes left with strong play from Michael Lieffers in the key. Lieffers added two more to put his team down by one point. Jarred Ogungbemi-Jackson and Ross Bekkering gave the Dinos four more points for a three point 79-76 lead. The Huskies had two chances at the three point shot with seconds left on the clock but both Duncan Jones and Showron Glover couldn't sink the ball.

With the win the Dinos move to 7-1 on the season, while the Huskies sit at .500 at 3-3. A night earlier, the Huskies handed Calgary their first loss of the season at 86-67.

The teams were evenly matched throughout the first three quarters. The Huskies jumped out to a first quarter 9-0 lead but Calgary was able to get in the game quickly and finish the first quarter down by just one point at 16-15. The lead changed hands four times in the second quarter. The Huskies had a four point 40-36 lead heading into halftime.

The third quarter remained tight until Calgary took over the lead in the game at 55-54 with three minutes left in the frame. The Dinos began to build a lead. The 10-point margin to finish the third quarter at 65-55 was the largest in the game. Calgary outscored the Huskies 29-15 in the quarter.

The Huskies finished the game shooting 44.6%, while Calgary shot 48%. Saskatchewan beat the Dinos on the boards nabbing 38 rebounds to Calgary's 31 but the Dinos were the team able to capitalize on their rebounds scoring 16 points on the second chance. 

Bekkering finished with a game high with 36 points and hit 16 of his 18 free throws for the Dinos. He also had eight rebounds. Tyler Fidler followed for the Dinos with 15 points. Glover had 24 points for the Huskies, followed by Michael Linklater with 22 and Troy Gottselig with 12. Glover and Nolan Brudehl each had a game high nine rebounds.

The Huskies will hit the road to Edmonton to face the University of Alberta Golden Bears, while the Dinos will travel to B.C. to face the Trinity Western University Spartans and the Simon Fraser University Clan next weekend. Both weekend sets will be the last for the Huskies and Dinos before the Canada West holiday break.
