CALGARY - The University of Calgary Dinos women's hockey team will head to Saskatchewan for the second time this month when they take on the University of Regina Cougars on Friday and Saturday this weekend.
Both the Cougars and Dinos are trying to get themselves out of the Canada West basement where they occupy the sixth and seventh places respectively.
The Dinos haven't won a game since their season opener in October when they downed the UBC Thunderbirds 3-1. Their most recent matchup saw them swept by the University of Saskatchewan Huskies in a pair of 2-5 defeats two weeks ago. Their record currently sits at 1-7 with two thirds of the season remaining.
The Cougars are currently 1-4-3 after emerging somewhat victorious in a series against the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns earlier in October with a win and a shootout loss. Last weekend they earned two more points when they lost to the University of Manitoba Bisons in back-to-back shootouts.
Goal scoring has been sparse for both teams, as the Dinos have a -20 goals for/against ratio on the season while Regina sits at -19. The Cougars will be relying on one of their most consistent scorers in Nellie Minshull who has netted five goals so far this season.
Elana Lovell has been the most consistent striker for the Dinos with her four goals in the eight games this season.
The series faces off in Regina on Friday and Saturday nights with 6:00 p.m. starts at Sherwood Arena.
