Back to .500 after weather game and weekend sweep

| By:
LETHBRIDGE, Alta. - The University of Calgary Dinos overcame adverse conditions to complete a weekend sweep of University of Lethbridge Pronghorns with a 3-0 Sunday afternoon victory at University of Lethbridge Community Stadium.

BOX SCORE

Weather was a huge factor for both teams as they had to deal with freezing rain and swirling wind throughout much of the game.  The first half saw no scoring, but had a few quality chances for both teams that went unconverted.  The Dinos almost scored before the game was two minutes old on a rush that had Katie Blundell denied by Horns goalkeeper Ashley Cowan; the rebound dangerously bounced around the Horns crease before being cleared by a Lethbridge defender.

Lethbridge answered with a chance of their own in the 12th minute as Marley Walker sent in Andrea Nippard with only Dinos keeper Kristen Barton to beat.  Barton was equal to the task as she made a diving save to keep the game scoreless. Barton would also deny the Horns in the 18th minute as a shot from the top of the penalty area was punched aside with yet another diving save by the Dinos keeper.

With time ticking away in the first half Dinos forward Tessa Miller fired a free kick on goal that would go off of the hands of Cowan but was stopped by the crossbar. The Dinos would go into the first half with a 6-4 shots on goal advantage over the Horns.

The second half opened with a glorious chance for the Horns in the opening seconds. Walker broke free from the Dino defenders, her strike beat Barton, but found the right post. Calgary finally broke the stalemate in the 63rd minute thanks to a Katie Blundell goal.  Blundell took a pass inside the 6 yard box and tucked it past Cowan.

Calgary added to their lead six minutes later as Tessa Miller cracked a long shot from outside the penalty area that found the top corner of the net. The Calgary assault was finalized by Blundell on a highlight reel diving header that put the Dinos up by three goals.

The final shots on goal for the game had the Dinos outshooting the Horns by a total of 11 to 6. The loss drops the Horns to 0-8-0 for the season while the Dinos move to the .500 mark with a record of 4-4-0.

The Horns and Dinos take next weekend off for a bye week but return to action the following weekend with both teams facing the UBC Thunderbirds and TWU Spartans on the west coast.
