LETHBRIDGE, Alta. – Heading into their eighth game of the season, the Lethbridge Pronghorns Achilles Heel had been offensive production, but in one game the Horns doubled their season output enroute to their first victory with a 3-2 win over the Calgary Dinos.
The three goals matched their output of their previous seven games this season.
The Horns hit the scoreboard in the 2nd minute when a Morgan Brownjohn corner resulted in a goalmouth scramble where Horns defender Steven Brown was able to slip the ball past Dinos goalkeeper #J.P. Crescenzi# to give the Horns an early lead.
The Dinos evened the game up in the 19th minute when a
Jeremy Jenkyns shot resulted in a rebound that
Matt Reid buried past Horns keeper Jordan Campbell. Lethbridge would regain the lead once again off a corner kick as Michael O'Brien headed home a Greg Remjin pass.
The Dinos almost knotted the game back up in the 33rd minute when
David Bird's flying kick attempt was punched over the cross bar by Campbell. At the half the Dinos held a slim shot advantage of 9-7 but the Horns generated six corner kick with their continuous pressure.
Matt Medrouma extended the Horns lead only seven minutes in the second half off a long throw play, collecting a ball deep in the Dinos box and beating Crescenzi. From there on out, the Horns sat back and the Dinos applied the pressure, generating numerous scoring opportunities, but failed to find the mark. The Dinos did make the game interesting late, cutting the Horns lead to one in the 88th minute off a goal by substitute
Ben Cole.
With the win the Horns improve to 1-6-1, while the Dinos fall to 3-4-1. Both teams are off next weekend for Thanksgiving but return to action the following weekend on the road, facing the Saskatchewan Huskies and Alberta Golden Bears.
