CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos face a hard road to the CIS field hockey championships after dropping their second straight match this weekend to the University of Victoria Vikes 2-0 at Hawkings Field Sunday.

The Vikes won their second game in two days on goals from Perri Espeth and Gillian Wright.

Despite being shut out, the Dinos were in the game all afternoon with forwards Kaitlyn Longworth and Kiera Chicquen pitching in a number of highly dangerous rushes on the Vikes net.

All of the Dinos attacks were shutdown by Victoria goalie, Kaitlyn Williams, who posted her second shutout this weekend.

The first goal came at 42:30 after a back and forth first half when the Vikes' Perri Espeth was awarded a stroke on the Dinos net. Espeth lined up a shot that flew over the left foot of Calgary goaltender Stephanie Petrowitsch as she split the pads to the right side of her net.

The second Vikes tally came eight minutes later off the stick of Gillian Wright. Wright was alone on the rush in the Calgary circle after beating a defender when she slapped the ball straight past Petrowitsch to
give the Vikes a 2-0 lead.

The result leaves the 2-7-1 Dinos at least one point behind the 2-5-2 Alberta Pandas for the final berth in the CIS championships. The Dinos next series is against the Pandas and will determine who goes on and whose season ends. The Vikes, who host the national tournament, have already qualified.

Victoria's next series sees them take on the Canada West-leading UBC Thunderbirds in Victoria. Calgary will face Alberta at Foote Field in Edmonton in a showdown for the third and final available bid to the CIS tournament.
