Power play lifts Huskies past Dinos

| By:
CALGARY – The University of Saskatchewan Huskies went 3-for-8 with the extra attacker to defeat the Calgary Dinos 3-2 Saturday at Father David Bauer Arena Saturday, sweeping the weekend series between the two sides.

BOX SCORE

Danny Stone led the way with two goals, while linemates Julie Paetsch and Breanne George both recorded multiple-point nights for the Huskies as the Saskatchewan power play fired on all cylinders.

The Dinos were determined to have a better showing than their 5-0 loss to the Huskies Friday evening. Calgary held it scoreless until midway through the second, when Stone potted her first of the afternoon with the Dinos' Casey Irving off for roughing.

Despite power play troubles, the Dinos kept up their forecheck and were rewarded at 8:17 in the third when Melissa Zubick picked off a pass in Saskatchewan's right circle before ripping a slapshot into the top left corner.

The Dinos ran into penalty trouble, however, and Saskatchewan responded quickly with two goals in a span of 21 seconds. Paetsch scored the first at 10:45, while Stone's eventual game winner came at 11:06.

Despite this turn in momentum the Dinos would dig in for one last push after Danielle Boyce deposited her first goal of the season at 18:10.

The last-minute push would be halted by Huskies goalie Brianna Workman, who made 18 stops en route to the 3-2 Saskatchewan victory.

At the other end, Katie Urness was responsible for keeping the Dinos in the game after she stopped 25 of 28 shots on goal.

“I'm happy with the effort of the team. Sometimes you don't have the bounces on your side,” Dinos head coach Danielle Goyette noted. “We came back stronger than yesterday but I think that we were undisciplined at the end and it cost us the game.”

The Dinos return to action next weekend as they host the University of Manitoba Bisons on Oct. 23-24, with both games facing off at 7:30PM at the Olympic Oval. The Huskies will travel back home to host the University of Alberta, the only other undefeated team in Canada West.
