Hill leads Dinos to big victory over the ‘Horns

| By:

CALGARY- A dominant Dinos third quarter and an outstanding all-around game from Ashley Hill was the difference as Calgary beat the Lethbridge Pronghorns 82-58 in Canada West women's basketball action.

Ahead by 11 points at the half, the Dinos exploded in the third quarter, scoring 32 points compared to 19 from the 'Horns. The Dinos received three buckets from downtown in the third frame, which contributed to a blistering 54% from the three point line.

Hill, a third year guard for the Dinos, was spectacular on a night where Calgary never trailed after the first quarter. Hill scored 22 points to go along with five rebounds and seven assists in 27 minutes of quality action. Equally impressive for Calgary was rookie forward Alex Cole, who managed 18 points and three rebounds.

Perhaps more impressive was the quality of team play from the Dinos, who had no problem setting each other up throughout the game. Calgary had 21 assists on 35 field goals, a strong indication of good ball movement and teamwork on the floor.

With the victory, the Dinos strengthen their first place position in the Central Division with a record of 5-2 in conference action. The Dinos will certainly be pleased to know that the Alberta Pandas dropped their Friday game to the Saskatchewan Huskies by a score of 56-49, putting both teams in a deadlock for second place in the Central with records of 3-2.

The Pronghorns were helped by their big gun, Lauren Taal, who tallied 12 points and four rebounds in the losing effort.

An inability to convert from the floor ultimately told the story for the 'Horns, who shot a meager 35% from the floor. Amongst this percentage, Lethbridge could only muster up two three point conversions out of 13 attempts, good for only 13% from beyond the arc.

Also aiding the Pronghorns was Kenzie Sheen, who scored ten points to go along with seven rebounds. Lethbridge drops to 1-6 on the season with the loss.

With hopes of staying in the thick of the Central Division playoff race in Canada West, the 'Horns will undoubtedly be looking for a stronger effort on Saturday night against the Dinos. On the other side, the Dinos would love nothing more than to keep pushing their high scoring attack to victory as they get set to close out the weekend against the Pronghorns in the Jack Simpson Gym.
