| By:

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — The eighth-ranked Calgary Dinos exploded to a 103-57 win over the Thompson Rivers WolfPack Saturday night in Kamloops, completing a perfect road weekend as they head back to Calgary for their home opener next week.

BOX SCORE

The Dinos (3-1)  jumped out to a 10 point lead after the first quarter,  but the pesky WolfPack (now 1-3) limited them to a one point quarter advantage in the second.

“We were pretty pleased with our first half in general, “said Thom Gillespie, head coach of the WolfPack.  “We didn't play with a lot of confidence in the first quarter.  Second quarter we played great.  In the third quarter, we started and had some opportunities but couldn't convert.  The momentum went right to them and they started to make some shots and it snowballed from there.”

The Dinos were led by 4th year forward Robbie Sihota (Calgary, Alta). He had 24 points, while guard Tyler Fidler (2nd year, Calgary, Alta) had 16.

“I was happy with our energy and our effort tonite and this weekend,“ said Dinos bench boss Dan Vanhooren.  “We dropped a game in Winnipeg that we thought we should have won.  This weekend was just about working hard. Im really thrilled with how we reacted.”

Vanhooren felt his club was really balanced.  “The key for us is just being focused every night. We need every guy bringing the thing they can provide.  Tonight we did that. Our team is really coming together.  The roadtrip was really good for us that way.  Hopefully it can continue when we go home.”

All 12 Calgary players hit the scoresheet. Fidler went 3-7 from three-point range, and Henry Bekkering, adding 8 boards and 14 points.  Ross Bekkering led  the rebounding with 11 and scored 7 points, while Dustin Reding notched 9 points in only 8 minutes. The Dinos outshot TRU 53 per cent to 36 per cent, and won the rebounding battle 49-35, including 19 on the offensive glass.

Fourth-year forward Jeff Friesen led the way offensively for TRU. The Duncan, BC Native had 17 points and 10 rebounds.  Guard Matt Pierce (2nd year, Winnipeg, Man) had 15 points—13 in the first half..

For the WolfPack, it's back to the drawing board—preparing to head to Manitoba to play the Bison on Nov. 7 and Winnipeg Nov. 8.

The Dinos, meanwhile, return home for their home openers next weekend, facing Brandon Friday and Regina Saturday in the Jack Simpson Gym.
