Fifth-year senior Ross Bekkering added 53 points to his season total over the weekend as the fifth-ranked Calgary Dinos clinched first place in the Prairie Division with their first-ever weekend sweep of the Brandon Bobcats, but it was another milestone reached Friday that will be noticed in the record books.

With six rebounds in Friday’s 103-70 pasting of the Bobcats – just the second Calgary win all-time at Brandon and the first in conference play – Bekkering became just the fourth player in the history of Canada West basketball to record 900 rebounds in his career. He enters the final weekend of the regular season with a career total of 906 with one game left on the schedule, Saturday night in Lethbridge.

Offensively, Bekkering was spectacular on both nights. Friday he poured in his 29 points on nearly 79 per cent shooting from the field (11-14) while making seven of his eight free throw tries. His pace cooled slightly a night later, but he still went 8-13 from the field and 8-9 from the line to add 24 points – his 16th consecutive game scoring in the double digits. The 53 points move him 26 back of number four on the Dinos’ all-time scoring list and nine in arrears of teammate Robbie Sihota in career scoring.
