First-year Russell Wood helped lead the Dinos to their 20th Canada West title in school history. He went on to pick up Rookie of the Meet honours as well in his first conference championship as a Dino.

The Calgary native set two new conference records on his way to winning gold medals. Wood broke a five-year-old record in the 100m backstroke with a time of 53.07, and also set a new record in the 200m backstroke. He also took gold in the 4x100m medley relay with teammates Jason Block, Bogdan Knezevic and David Woodman, to set his third record of the meet.

The rookie also won a silber in the 4x100m free relay on Saturday with teammates Woodman, Bryan Wray and Gleb Suvorov.
