CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos men's soccer team extended their winning run to three games after they beat the University of Alberta Golden Bears 2-0 at McMahon Stadium on Sunday.
The Dinos' win improves their record to 5-2 for the season in Canada West play, while Alberta drops to 3-2-1.
Luis Rangel-Kataev gave the Dinos the lead in the 11th minute, scoring his fourth goal of the season off a pass from
Efe Udolu-Joshua. It was his third goal of the weekend, after he scored twice in Saturday's 3-0 win over the University of Saskatchewan Huskies.
Calgary took the 1-0 lead into halftime and finished the afternoon with a 12-9 edge in shots. Goalkeeper
Oliver Allen made three saves for the shutout, his second clean sheet of the weekend.
After the game, Allen said, "It's been a long road to get these minutes for me, so when I knew it was going to be my time I wanted to step up and to be there for the team and do what I can."
"It's a lot easier when I've got a great, experienced backline in front of me. That really helps me through the game."
Udolu-Joshua, who led all players with six shots, four of them on target, put the game away with the final kick of the match.
William Omoreniye selflessly passed to him in front of an empty net and Udolu-Joshua finished for his first goal of the season.
The Dinos will return to action Saturday, Sept. 26 when they host the UBC Okanagan Heat at 4:30 p.m.
Alberta will host the Trinity Western University Spartans on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 2:15 p.m.
