Dinos blanked at home by Pronghorns

CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos men's soccer team fell 2-0 to the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns on Saturday at McMahon Stadium, unable to solve Lethbridge goalkeeper Brady McLarty despite outshooting the Pronghorns 15-7.

The loss drops the Dinos to 2-2-0 in Canada West play, while Lethbridge improved to 1-1-0.

Robert Woodroffe-Brown provided the difference for the Pronghorns, opening the scoring unassisted in the 25th minute before converting a penalty kick right at the stroke of halftime to make it 2-0.

The Dinos pushed for a response, particularly in the second half, but could not beat McLarty, who turned aside seven shots to preserve the clean sheet. Joey Plenzik, William Omoreniye, Greg Smith and Nabeel Naboulsi all had late chances denied down the stretch.

The match was a physical affair throughout. Lethbridge finished with seven yellow cards, while Calgary was shown three.

Despite the setback, Dinos head coach Ramon Mifflin was encouraged by his team's second-half response.

"Not our best, but I was proud of the team and how they fought back in the second half," said Mifflin. "Tomorrow we go again. Really important game for us to be able to split this weekend and have a win."

The Dinos will return to action Sunday, Sept. 13 at 3:30 p.m. when they host the MacEwan University Griffins at McMahon Stadium. Tickets are available at GoDinos.com/Tickets.

Lethbridge will remain in Calgary to face the Mount Royal University Cougars on Sunday, Sept. 13.
