TORONTO – Five members of the University of Calgary Dinos football team have been selected to participate in the 2026 East-West Bowl, as announced by U SPORTS on Friday.
Matthieu Clarke,
Sylvester Ibelo,
Darius Redhead,
Everett Schmuland, and
Evan Smith will represent Calgary on the West roster, while Dinos head coach Adam Blasetti and defensive coordinator Chris Anstey will serve on the West coaching staff at the annual event.
Smith earns the nod following an impressive 2025 campaign that saw him record three touchdowns while being named both a Canada West All-Star and U SPORTS Second Team All-Canadian at halfback. Clarke will also represent the Dinos on offence after emerging during the 2024 season, where he nearly doubled his career rushing totals before an injury shortened his 2025 campaign.
Defensively, Ibelo makes his East-West Bowl debut one year after his brother, Franklin, took part in the event. Ibelo and Redhead were important pieces along Calgary's defensive line last season, while Schmuland has become a steady contributor at linebacker.
The East-West Bowl brings together 107 of the top Canadian university football players eligible for the 2027 CFL Draft, offering participants an opportunity to perform in front of Canadian Football League coaches, general managers, and scouts. Each of the 27 U SPORTS football programs sends a minimum of three third- or fourth-year players to the showcase.
Kickoff is set for 10:30 a.m. MT on Saturday, May 9 at Warrior Field.
