CALGARY – As the University of Calgary Dinos women's basketball team gets set for its Canada West semifinal showdown Saturday, its two senior guards already claimed some hardware Thursday morning.
Amélie Collin and
Pollyanna Storie both were named to the Canada West All-Star squads, as Collin was named to the second team, while Storie earned a spot on this year's third team.
Collin - arguably the top defender in all of U SPORTS this season - was a force all season long for the Dinos. The 5-foot-9 guard stole the headlines over the course of the season for breaking not only the Dinos program record for career steals (259), but also the Canada West records for both career steals (322) and steals in a single season (98). The product of Rimouski, Que., also finished tied leading the team in scoring this season with 12.1 points per game, while also leading the entire conference in three-point shooting - connecting at a 39.3% clip.
One year after being the first option off the bench in every game, Storie transitioned to being an every-game starter for the Dinos as a senior and thrived. The 6-foot-2 matchup nightmare for opposing defences also tied for the team lead in scoring at 12.1 points per game. Storie also finished the regular season with 77 total rebounds, 43 assists, 30 steals, 11 blocks and connecting on 44.7% of her shots from the floor - one of the top marks by a guard in all of Canada West.
The dynamic duo also will graduate with both their names littered across the Dinos top-10 career record board, with Storie ranked in blocks, made threes and career free-throw percentage, while Collin cracks the list in steals, assists, three-point shooting percentage and games started.
Calgary is set to take on top-ranked Saskatchewan Saturday from Saskatoon in a conference semifinal showdown at 6 p.m. MT.
