Stage set for final day of round robin at 2026 Curling Championships

REGINA – The playoff picture will come into focus Friday at the 2026 U SPORTS/CCAA Curling Championships, with first place on the line in both competitions and multiple teams still battling for coveted semifinal spots heading into the final day of round-robin play at the Caledonian Curling Club in Regina.

Both Dinos' teams went 1-1 on the day.

Calgary's men's team opened Day 3 with a big win over Laurier. The Dinos were chasing the OUA powerhouse program seemingly the whole match until turning things on late. Calgary trailed 2-0 after two, 4-2 after four and 5-4 after six. But a big two spot in the sixth flipped the script as the Dinos took their first lead in the heavyweight matchup. The Golden Hawks had the hammer in the final end, but Calgary set things up perfectly and stole one for the 7-5 win.

In the evening match, the Dinos scored in just two ends - by far their lowest all season in a match that went the full distance. Regina opened with two. Calgary tied things up in the third, but the Cougars tallied two in the fifth and one in each of the next two ends for a significant lead. Kenan Wipf's squad got two back in the eighth but time ran out on the comeback effort in the 6-4 loss.

On the women's side, Calgary never got on track in an 8-1 loss to UNB early in the day before responding nicely for their first win in the nightcap against Queen's. The Dinos scored three in the second end to really get things going. After the Geals got one back in the third, Calgary added one in the fourth, two in the fifth and another three in the seventh to close things out with a 9-5 win.

Heading into the final day of the round robin, the Dinos men sit tied for third at 3-2. They will go up against Alberta (3-2) at 8 a.m. MT Friday before taking on York (1-4) at 3 p.m. MT.

Meanwhile, the women's team is set to take on Guelph (2-3) in the morning session before wrapping things up against Memorial (4-1) in the finale.

The championships feature eight U SPORTS men's teams and eight women's teams competing in round-robin play through Friday.

The top four teams in each competition will advance to the semifinals on Saturday morning, with gold and bronze medal games set for Saturday afternoon.
