WINNIPEG – The University of Calgary Dinos women's hockey team wrapped up its regular season with a 5–0 loss to the Manitoba Bisons on Saturday afternoon at Wayne Fleming Arena.
Manitoba honoured six graduating players before puck drop and delivered a strong performance on home ice.
Calgary's top performer was first-year goaltender
Maisie Cope. Despite the score, she kept the Dinos within reach with several key saves from close range and through traffic.
The Dinos finish the regular season at 16-7-5-0. The Bisons close at 13-9-3-3.
Manitoba set the tone early. The Bisons generated quality chances throughout the first period, forcing Cope to stop in-tight attempts from Aimee Patrick and Dana Goertzen. Hanna Bailey opened the scoring with a screened wrist shot from the point for her fourth goal of the season.
Calgary pushed back early in the second period and created its best sustained pressure of the game. Manitoba goaltender Emily Shippam made two strong saves to preserve the lead. The Bisons then regained control, and Cope turned aside dangerous looks from Norah Collins, Jessica Haner, Julia Bird and Kelsey Huibers, including a glove save on Huibers from close range.
Bailey struck again later in the period. She created space at the blue line and wired a shot over Cope's shoulder for her second of the game, extending Manitoba's lead to 2–0.
In the third, the Bisons pulled away. Cope denied Collins on a partial break early in the frame, but Manitoba broke through with consecutive goals from Bird and Collins. Alyssa Rasmuson added a tap-in to cap the scoring.
Calgary and Manitoba now turn their focus to the Canada West playoffs. The Dinos will host Trinity Western for a best-of-three quarterfinal series at Father David Bauer Arena, starting Friday.
