Following a big home sweep of No. 3 Alberta, the University of Calgary Dinos men's volleyball team (6-8) is back on campus this weekend to host No. 1 UBC (13-1). The action starts Friday at 6 p.m. inside the Jack Simpson Gym, with Saturday's rematch set for a 5:45 p.m. start following the women's match.
Calgary picked up two huge wins last weekend, sweeping provincial rivals Alberta in Friday's opener before winning 3-1 in Saturday's finale. That moves the Dinos to 6-8 and in eighth place in the loaded Canada West where the top 10 teams qualify for the postseason. Following this weekend's home doubleheader with UBC, the DInos will have a week off before closing out the regular season at Mount Royal before hosting Thompson Rivers.
The Thunderbirds come to Calgary ranked No. 1 in the nation since the start of the year. They hold a 13-1 record in conference play, with their lone loss coming in five sets at Trinity Western back in November.
Calgary and UBC have each had success on their home courts in the head-to-head series of late. Most recently, the T-Birds earned two wins in Vancouver, while the Dinos dropped just one set in a weekend sweep in Calgary back in 2023.

The Dinos women's volleyball team also is back at the Jack Simpson Gym this weekend, hosting No. 2 UBC (11-3) Friday and Saturday.
Calgary dropped a close one to top-ranked Alberta last weekend and now sits at 6-8 on the year. That has them sitting in eighth place in the league standings with six games still to go.
UBC comes to Calgary with an 11-3 record and ranked No. 2 in the latest U SPORTS top 10. They're coming off a home sweep of MacEwan where they held the Griffins to 16 or fewer points in five of the seven sets.
The T-Birds have had Calgary's number of late, winning the last six regular season matches between the two programs. The Dinos last conference win over UBC dates back to Feb. 15-16 when they swept them at home two weeks before repeating that feat in the postseason.

The No. 7 Dinos women's basketball team stays on the road this weekend, traveling to Saskatchewan for another heavyweight battle against the No. 1 Huskies. Friday's tilt is set to tip off at 5 p.m. MT, with Saturday's action set for a 4 p.m. start.
It was a successful bounce back weekend for the Dinos as they swept through MacEwan in a pair of convincing wins. In Saturday's win, Calgary held the Griffins to just 21 points in a 75-21 win. That is the fewest points allowed by a Dinos team in a regular season game in over 50 years.
Individually, Amelie Collin is closing in the Canada West record for career steals. The fifth year from Rimouski, Que., already broke the program record earlier this year and now sits at 291 with six games still on the schedule. That moves her into second place in conference history, just 17 shy of Ashley Wigg's (Alberta; 2004-09) record of 308.
Saskatchewan comes into the weekend with a perfect 14-0 record and ranked as the No. 1 team in the nation. They are tied with Regina for the lead in the loaded Prairie Division that boasts four teams ranked in the U SPORTS top 10. Both Gage Grassick and Logan Reider are averaging more than 17.0 points per game for the highest scoring team in the country.
Last season, the Dinos opened the season with two thrilling home wins over the Huskies. That snapped a four-game skid in the head-to-head series that has seen numerous memorable battles between two of the premier programs in the country over the past decade.

The Dinos men's hoops team (8-6) is also off to the Prairies, taking on Saskatchewan (5-9) for two games inside the Physical Activity Complex (PAC) Friday and Saturday evening.
Calgary enters the weekend at 8-6 in league play, good for fourth in the Prairie Division with six games still to play. The Dinos got a number of big individual performances on the court this past weekend, with Dre Francis racking up a double-double of 24 points and 16 rebounds on Friday before Mrigendra Dhaliwal once again had a big offensive performance and led the way with 20 points - already the fourth time the rookie has poured in at least 20 points in a game this season.
The Huskies sit at 5-9 in league play and have won three in row heading into the weekend. Saskatchewan claimed a pair of close wins at Lethbridge this past weekend after knocking off Alberta in Edmonton to start the semester.
Calgary and Saskatchewan have had some physical battles in recent years. The Dinos have been able to find a way to get things done in the series, however, winning 19 of the last 20 regular season matchups.

Coming off an impressive showing in Edmonton, the Dinos track & field teams return to campus for the final home meet of the 2026 season - hosting the annual Dinos Classic Sunday morning inside the Jack Simpson Gym. The first race is scheduled to run at 9:30 a.m.
Calgary is coming off another strong showing, winning nine events at the annual Golden Bear Open in Edmonton this past weekend. Now, the Dinos are ranked in the top-12 in U SPORTS a total of 30 times across all events. Sienna MacDonald leads the way in that category, being ranked in a remarkable six events - including holding the top marks in the nation in the pentathlon and long jump and ranking second in the 60m hurdles.
Up next, the Dinos will head to Edmonton one final time for the annual Pandas Open Feb. 6-7. That will be the final regular-season action for Calgary before the Canada West Championships Feb. 20-21, hosted this year by Saskatchewan.
Dinos Swimming

The Dinos are back in the pool for the first time as a team in 2026, heading to Toronto for what has become an annual dual meet with the Varsity Blues. The meet is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. MT inside the Varsity Pool.
Calgary is coming off a pair of team silver medals at this year's Canada West Championships, loading up with 35 medals over three days of swimming in Lethbridge back in November.
Now the Dinos will turn their attention to nationals, hosted this year by McMaster in Ontario, March 12-14. Leading up to that, Calgary will close out the regular season with one final home meet next weekend.

The 2026 season is here for the Dinos rugby 7s squad, starting with a weekend tournament in Edmonton. The Dinos will play five games in just over 24 hours, starting Saturday morning against Trinity Western.
A season ago, the Dinos finished fourth overall in the six-team Canada West, narrowly missing another bronze medal in the final standings.
This year, a young Calgary squad will look to continue to grow from the 15s season in the fall and take the next steps.
This weekend's tournament in Edmonton is the first of three this season. Tournament 2 will be hosted by Victoria Feb. 7-8, while Tournament 3 is set for March 6-7 in Vancouver.
