EDMONTON – Playoff positioning started to take shape at the 2026 Canada West Curling Championships Friday, as the University of Calgary Dinos women's curling team went 1-1 in round robin play from inside the Saville Centre.
The Dinos finished strong and continued to stay in the top half of the leaderboard going into the final day of competition.
Draw 4 – vs. UBCO
Calgary couldn't quite get on track in Friday's opener. Going up against a strong upstart program in UBCO, the Dinos fell into a 2-0 hole early. They responded with two of their own in the third to tie things up, only to see the Heat tally one in each of the next four ends for the 6-2 win.
Draw 6 – vs. Brandon
After a bye, the Dinos bounced back in a big way in Friday's final draw of the day. Calgary jumped out to a big lead thanks to a three spot in the opening end before stealing one in the third to lead 4-0. The Bobcats made things interesting late with three of their own in the seventh, but the Dinos finished strong with two more in the eighth for a 7-4 win.
The Dinos have two more draws in round robin play on Saturday, starting with a showdown against host Alberta at 2 p.m. before a 7 p.m. finale against UBC.
