The 2026 Canada West Curling Championships are here as the Dinos head to Edmonton for three days of competition. Both Calgary's men's and women's teams will compete in a round robin starting Thursday morning, with the top-four teams advancing to Sunday's semifinals.

This marks only the fourth year for the Dinos curling program back in action. Twice, Calgary's men's team has finished as conference runners-up in their first three years, including last year while hosting the CW Championships.

This year's Dinos women are looking to make their mark. Two seasons ago, that program finished tied for silver at the conference meet but settled for third based on tie breakers.

Calgary's only two curling conference banners came back in 1973 for the women and 1964 for the men.

Saturday's rematch with between the provincial rivals is set for 5:45 p.m. Both matches will take place inside the Jack Simpson Gym.

It's been a tough season for the young Dinos. They enter the weekend at 4-8 after a road sweep at the hands of No. 4 UBCO. The line score doesn't nearly tell the story of the two matches, as Calgary played strong in both, but the Heat played nearly error-less volleyball to continue their best season in program history.

Alberta comes to town ranked No. 3 in the country at 8-2 in conference play. This weekend's action will be the first of the new year for the Golden Bears, who last played Nov. 29 in a five-set loss to Trinity Western, snapping a six-game win streak.

This is a rematch of last year's Canada West quarterfinal showdown. The two teams also met back in the regular season last year, with Alberta also winning both of those matches. Calgary is looking for its first regular season win in the series since Feb. 19, 2022.

Calgary had its four-game win streak snapped in a five setter this past weekend in Kelowna, now sitting at 6-6 with eight games left to play. That has them sitting in eighth place in the always-loaded Canada West, while they still have to play the teams currently ranked first, second, and third over the final four weeks of action.

The Pandas are ranked No. 1 in the latest U SPORTS top 10 with a 10-2 conference record. Third-year outside Abby Guezen leads the way for Alberta at the net with 3.69 kills/set while hitting .265.

The Dinos shot a season-high 51.3% in Friday's 26-point win before hitting at a 48.5% clip in Saturday's convincing win.
