CALGARY –
Brooke Batty of the Calgary Dinos women's soccer team has been named the Canada West BioSteel Women's Soccer Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon.
It was an incredible start to the season for Batty. The second-year forward set up the first goal of the season for the Dinos before erupting for four goals of her own - tying the program record for most goals in one game despite playing only 59 minutes in a 6-0 opening win over Regina.
One day later, Batty showed that performance was no fluke as she scored both goals in Calgary's 2-0 win over Saskatchewan for the six-point weekend for the Dinos.
Incredibly, Batty scored the six goals on just six shots. The six goals and seven points not only lead Canada West through the opening weekend, but are the national leaders by a noticeable margin in the early going.
The Dinos have their home opener this weekend with a pair of games at McMahon Stadium. MacEwan comes to campus Saturday before Alberta comes to Calgary on Sunday. Both games are scheduled to start at noon.
