The Dinos' annual
KICKOFF celebration to start the year gets underway this Friday as Calgary welcomes reigning Hardy Cup champion Regina to campus. Festivities are scheduled throughout the day, including an orientation tailgate outside McMahon Stadium at 3:30. Friday's game is set to start at 5:30 p.m.
Head coach Ryan Sheahan enters his second season leading the Dinos and has plenty to be excited about this year. The Dinos' elite defence that was one of the best in the nation a season ago returns all but two starters - both of whom now play in the CFL. On the offensive side of the ball, Calgary will have a host of new faces, but Matthieu Clarke - the leading rusher from the past two seasons - is back and expects to once again play a big role.
Regina comes to campus coming off a 3-5 record last year in conference play, but a late push in the finale against Alberta gave the Rams a playoff berth and they took full advantage of the extra time on the field, claiming the 87th Hardy Cup before finally bowing out in a 17-14 loss to Laval in the Mitchell Bowl.
The Dinos and Rams split their season series a season ago, with each team winning on the opposing team's home field.

This weekend also marks the start of the 2025 season for women's rugby 15s, as they get set to host Alberta Saturday afternoon for a 5 p.m. game from McMahon Stadium.
Calgary finished last year's 15s season in heartbreaking fashion, as a late goal-line stand by Lethbridge kept the Dinos from scoring on the final series of the game in the bronze-medal game at the Canada West Final Four. Calgary will look to use their strong 7s season this past spring to help them into this fall slate.
Head coach Simon Chi enters his 16th season leading the Dinos. The four-time Canada West Coach of the Year once again has a large crop of newcomers to this year's roster as the Dinos will once again feature one of the younger teams in the country.

After opening up the 2025 season at home last weekend, the Dinos men's soccer team hits the road for the first time this year with two games in different provinces this week, starting Friday. Calgary opens up the weekend Friday evening at Lethbridge before hitting the road for a Sunday doubleheader with the women's team at Saskatchewan.
It was quite the start to the year for fourth-year forward Owen Antoniuk. The local product scored all four goals in the opening 4-1 win over MacEwan before finding the back of the net one again one day later against Alberta. With that incredible start, the All-Canadian is already over halfway to his eight-goal tally from a season ago through just the first two games. For his efforts, Antoniuk was named the Canada West Men's Soccer Player of the Week on Tuesday - which also happened to be his birthday.
Despite the individual offensive outburst from Antoniuk, the Dinos suffered a hard-luck 2-1 loss on Sunday following a 90th minute penalty kick from the Golden Bears. The Dinos will look to bounce back and improve on their 1-1 record. Friday marks the season opener for Lethbridge, while Saskatchewan also opens up league play this weekend, starting Friday against Mount Royal.
The Dinos are back at home next Saturday, hosted city rival Mount Royal at 2:15pm from McMahon Stadium.

Calgary's women's soccer team is also in action this weekend for their first conference games of the year, traveling east for a pair of games in Saskatchewan. The regular season officially kicks off Saturday at noon in Regina before heading to Saskatoon for a Sunday 2:30 p.m. contest following the men's game.
It has been an exciting number of years for Dinos women's soccer and 2025 figures to be no different. Calgary returns all but one of their starters from a season ago that saw them turn in an 11-2-1 conference record and narrowly miss another berth to nationals.
Head coach Diogo Raposo enters his fourth season leading the Dinos and has gone an impressive 28-7-7 in conference play in his first three years at the helm.
The Dinos were picked second in this year's Canada West preseason coaches poll, receiving one first-place vote in the 15-team league.
Calgary's home opener will come next weekend when they host MacEwan (Saturday) and Alberta (Sunday) from McMahon Stadium.
