LIMA – It was a highly successful week for Canadian wrestlers as they captured 18 total medals the 2026 U20 Pan-Am Championships, July 10-12, in Lima, Peru – with a trio of Dinos helping lead the way.
Calgary's
Annika Fines brought home one of two gold medals for the Canadian women at 62kg. Fines was in a traditional bracket. She won her quarterfinal 11-1 over Carina Giangeruso of Puerto Rico and then her semifinal by the same score over Leonela Gruezo of Ecuador. She matched up with American Lilly Luft in the final and came away with a 2-1 victory.
"I am really excited about the win. I think I wrestled a great finals match, I was very strategic, so overall I am just very pleased with my performance today," said Fines after the win.
U SPORTS Rookie of the Year
Mackenzie Cayer was dominant in her semifinal matchup and earned a silver medal at the 65kg class.
On the men's side, two-time U SPORTS champion
Nick Hooper started his tournament appearance with a tech fall win in a tidy 40 seconds. Hooper brought home the bronze medal with a pin, only falling to the eventual champion in his semifinal showdown.
