Dinos rebound with strong 3-0 win over Wesmen

WINNIPEG – The University of Calgary Dinos women's volleyball team are officially back in the win column with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-12, 25-19) victory over the Winnipeg Wesmen on Saturday night.

After dropping a 3-0 decision a night prior for their fourth consecutive loss, the Scarlet & Gold were looking to rebound with a strong performance on Saturday evening at the Duckworth Centre.

The first set opened with a back and forth fight as the Wesmen took the early 8-5 lead, but the Dinos rattled off eight of the next nine points to take a 13-9 lead into the first timeout. The teams continued to trade points down the stretch before the Dinos were able to pull away for the 25-22 set win.

In the second set the Dinos took over, led by Sophia Hansen who delivered five of her team-high 11 kills on the night. Thanks to a scorching hot .353 hitting percentage for the set Calgary took over as the set went on taking eleven of the final thirteen points for the 25-12 victory.

The Dinos came out flying in the third set jumping out to a 14-5 lead before the Wesmen took their first timeout. Winnipeg slowly began to chip away at the deficit but a kill from Anya Fehr, her fourth of the match, sealed a 25-19 set win and a three set victory.

Along with her four kills Fehr picked up 22 assists while Leni Blanke added 8 digs to lead Calgary.

The Dinos return to their home court at the Jack Simpson Gymnasium on Friday, Nov. 28 at 6:45 p.m, for the start of a two-game weekend set with the University of Fraser Valley Cascades to close the fall portion of their schedule.
