Women's hockey settles for weekend split

EDMONTON – One night after an impressive 2-1 win over their provincial rivals, the University of Calgary Dinos were shutout for just the second time all season in a 3-0 loss to Alberta Saturday evening from Clare Drake Arena.

Goaltender Mackenzie Dojahn was flawless for the Pandas, stopping all 20 shots she faced to earn the shutout, while three different Pandas found the scoresheet in a well-balanced offensive effort. Dojahn now has three shutouts in five career regular season starts, and owns a 5-0-0 career record.

The result lifts Alberta to 3-3-2 on the season, while Calgary suffers just its third loss of the year and falls to 5-3-0. Alberta outshot Calgary 31–20 and killed off both Calgary powerplays. Rookie Maisie Cope was strong in the Dinos crease for the Scarlet & Gold, making 28 saves on 30 shots.

The breakthrough came late in the opening frame when Holly Magnus struck at 13:42, converting a crisp feed from Jadynn Morden and Ryann Perrett. Magnus's first goal of the season came after sustained offensive pressure

The Pandas doubled their lead midway through the second period. Sara Kazeil took a pass from Natalie Kieser and snapped a shot from the slot that found its way through traffic for her first of the year. The Pandas outshot Calgary 15-3 in the second period.

Calgary pressed early in the third, but Dojahn turned aside every look. The Dinos went on two late power plays, yet Alberta's structure held firm. With just under a minute remaining, and the Dinos net empty for an extra attacker, Annie King sealed the win with a short-handed empty-net goal in the final minute.

Up next, the Dinos return to Edmonton Thursday for the start of a home-and-home with MacEwan.
