CALGARY – Sam McKeown of the University of Calgary Dinos has been named the Canada West BioSteel Men's Golf Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday.

The second-year Dino could do no wrong in Edmonton this weekend as he finished six strokes ahead of the next golfer to coast to the UofA Invitational crown at Millwoods Golf Course.

McKeown was tied for the lead after Day 1 with a 69 (-3) before firing off his best round as a Dino with a 67 (-5) on Monday to finish at 136 (-8) to coast to the individual title. At one point, the Calgary native had to shrug his shoulders as his shot caromed off a nearby house and back onto the fairway before finishing the hole with a par as it just proved to be his day.

It marks the second career win for the Calgary native, who also finished runner-up at this year's season opener in Lethbridge.

McKeown was the tip of the spear as Dinos team also finished with a team win, finishing with an impressive +3 for the weekend to place eight strokes ahead of second place.

This marks the second time in his young career McKeown has been named the conference's top golfer of the week, also earning that honour back on Sept. 17 of last year following his first university tournament.

Calgary now turns its attention to the Canada West Championships. This year's conference meet is scheduled for Oct. 20-21 at the Chilliwack Golf Club, just outside of Abbotsford, B.C.
