CALGARY – The high-octane offence of the University of Calgary Dinos women's soccer team continued to roll as they defeated the Manitoba Bisons 8-2 at Dinosaur Field.
Forward
Grace Moore led the Dinos in scoring, registering two of the eight goals on Sunday, totalling four goals through their opening weekend.
"It's amazing; that's probably the best start I've ever had," mentioned Moore. "It's a full team effort. In preseason, we came as a team, and it really shows in-season."
As she had on Saturday, Moore scored the game's first goal.
Layla Tarraf and first-year midfielder
Isabella Burtini, who notched her first goal as a Dino, also found the net before Moore recorded her second to make it a 4-0 game at halftime.
Sarah Donick joined in on the first-year action, netting her first goal with the Dinos during the second half.
Jayden Berg and
Kaleigh Major tallied minutes apart to extend the Calgary lead to seven with nearly 40 minutes still to play.
The Bison finally found some ground with a goal by Nyema Prentice-Whyte in the 69th minute, putting them on the board and diminishing the idea of a clean sheet by the Dinos.
With 12 minutes to go,
Rowyn James recorded the eighth goal for the Dinos, which was responded to five minutes later by Manitoba's Janelle Chomini to end the scoring barrage.
"We got a lot of contributors, whether that's goals, assists, contributions to those goals," commented Dinos head coach
Diogo Raposo. "It's a testament to the depth of our squad; we're deep, and we're excited about that and the season."
Both teams will return to the pitch on Saturday, Sept. 14. The Dinos will travel north for the start of an Edmonton road swing against the MacEwan Griffins, while the Bisons will visit the Regina Cougars.
