Quick start sends Dinos past Cougars

CALGARY – The Calgary Dinos women's soccer team delivered a commanding performance, defeating the Regina Cougars 5-0 in a dominant showing Saturday afternoon from Dinosaur Field. With the win, the Dinos improved their conference record to 4-1.

From the first whistle, the Dinos set the pace. Captain Grace Moore wasted no time, capitalizing on a defensive miscue to opening the scoring less than three minutes into the game. Moore doubled the lead just five minutes later with another brilliant strike into the top corner, giving Calgary an early 2-0 advantage.

"We wanted to start strong and set the tone for the rest of the game," said Moore. "It's all about the team effort. Everyone stepped up, and it really showed today."

The Dinos continued their relentless attack, as forward Ella Djuranic joined the scoring spree in the 26th minute, netting a powerful shot to push the lead to 3-0 at halftime.

The second half began with more of the same as Paige Cates found the back of the net just four minutes in, blasting through Regina's defense to make it 4-0. First-year forward Rowyn James then provided a perfect assist to Djuranic, who scored her second goal of the match and closing out the scoring on the day at 5-0.

The Dinos' defense was equally solid, limiting the Cougars to minimal chances and recording their fourth shutout of the season. Katie French was credited with two saves in the win. Kareena Andersen tallied seven saves in net for Regina on the day.

With the win, Calgary remains undefeated at home and moves to 4-1, while Regina falls to 2-3.

The Dinos are back in action Sunday for a noon showdown against the Saskatchewan Huskies. Meanwhile, Regina travels to Lethbridge for a 2:15 p.m. Sunday.
