CALGARY – The Dinos men's basketball team will be back on their home floor in June.
The University of Calgary Dinos, in collaboration with Go Hard Sports, will host
Beyond The Hoops, a unique event this summer, welcoming the Gilas Legends inside the Jack Simpson Gym for a 6 p.m. game on Saturday, June 29.
The Philippines men's national basketball team, known as Gilas Pilipinas, has won the FIBA Asia Cup five times in their history, in addition to an International Basketball Federation (FIBA) World Cup bronze medal, and a fifth-place result at the Olympics. The Gilas Legends squad will be comprised of players who have suited up for the national team at the Olympics and other FIBA international events.
The Dinos men's basketball team is coming off an impressive 2023-24 campaign that saw them earn a 15-5 regular season record. Calgary was led by guards
Nate Petrone and
Noah Wharton, who were both selected in the 2024 Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) Draft.
"We are very excited to host the Gilas Legends and welcome the Filipino community into our gym. This is a really fun way for us to engage with a community that loves basketball," said Dinos head coach Dan Vanhooren. "It will also be a great opportunity for our players to face high-level professional players."
