Cross again shines on national stage

CALGARYGabriela Cross headlined an outstanding showing by members of the University of Calgary Dinos wrestling program this past week at the 2024 U23 Canadian Wrestling Championships, hosted this year at the MNP Centre in Calgary.

Cross – who was crowned both Canada West and U SPORTS Champion at the 59 kg class earlier this year – continued her reign of dominance by winning yet another title at the same weight class. For her efforts, Cross was named Most Outstanding Wrestler.

Also shining on the mats over the weekend for the Dinos women was Angelina Ellis-Toddington. The third-year wrestler that just helped Calgary claim its 12th conference banner this February finished runner-up in the 65 kg weight class.

On the men's side, Joseph De Maio (92 kg) and Mark Schwichtenberg (74 kg) both also brought home silver medals after two strong days of competition.

This past weekend's action marked the start of a busy summer for both Cross and Schwichtenberg, who will now prepare for the U23 Pan-American Championships, which are scheduled to run from June 21-22 in Rionegro, Colombia.
