EDMONTON – The University of Calgary Dinos men's hockey team scored five goals 15 minutes apart in the second period, coupled with a 27-save shutout from
Carl Tetachuk, en route to a 5-0 road win over the Alberta Golden Bears.
Coming off a 3-2 loss to Alberta on Friday night, the Dinos cane out the hungrier team, playing with pace and urgency unmatched by their opponent. While it took 22 minutes before the first goal was scored, it felt like a game Alberta was never in.
Colson Gengenbach,
Jadon Joseph,
Tyson Upper,
Jake Poole and
Sean Strange all scored for Calgary, who improved to 17-4-1 following the win.
The loss drops Alberta to 15-5-2, and three points back of Calgary for second in Canada West with six games remaining.
Matt Berlin stopped 25 of the 30 shots he faced, suffering his first regulation loss of 2023/24.
After Gengenbach opened the scoring early in the third, Joseph's second of the year just four minutes later seemed to deflate the home crowd. Upper and Poole scored 80 seconds apart midway through the second, all but sealing the Dinos win.
Not overly tested, Tetachuk made every save needed to earn his second shutout of the season.
Alberta will be off next weekend, while the Dinos will visit the last-place Manitoba Bisons.
