REGINA –
Jayden Berg and
Isabella DiPalma each scored in the first half to lead the University of Calgary Dinos women's soccer team to a sound 2-0 win over the University of Regina Cougars Saturday afternoon from the U of R Field.
The win moves the Dinos to 6-2-2 on the year, while Regina falls to 1-4-4.
Anna Demarbre got her first start in net for Calgary, recording three saves on the day for her first U SPORTS win.
Calgary got on the board in the 23rd minute following a scramble in front of the Regina net.
Sofia DiGiacomo headed the ball over to
Grace Moore from just above the goal line, then Moore attempted a shot which was blocked but
Jayden Berg was there to tap it into the open net.
The Dinos added another in the 43rd minute. DiGiacomo was in the middle of it again, sending a through ball to
Isabella DiPalma who knocked it home for her third goal of the season.
Kareena Andersen got the start in net for the Cougars and made five saves.
Shot attempts were 11-5 in favour of the Dinos.
Calgary – currently the second seed in the Prairie Division – now heads to Saskatoon – currently the third seed – for a Sunday contest at 2 p.m. MT. from Griffiths Stadium. The Huskies are coming off a 1-0 home win over Lethbridge Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Cougars continue their three-game homestand on Sunday afternoon against Lethbridge.
