Dinos cruise to road win over UBCO

KELOWNADanica Pullishy and Jaden Tomaszewski both scored the first goals of their collegiate careers Friday as the University of Calgary Dinos women's soccer team comfortably cruised to a 3-0 win over the UBC Okanagan Heat Friday evening from Nonis Field.

Calgary scored early in the first half before adding two more right out of the gates in the second to improve to 5-1-2 on the season. The loss is just the second all season for the Heat as they drop to 4-2-2.

The shutout is the second in a row and fifth overall for Dinos keeper Katie French, who picked up her fifth win of the season in net.

The Dinos jumped all over UBCO right out of the gates.

In the 12th minute, the Heat were trying to play the ball from their backline, but Calgary kept pressure high before eventually forcing a turnover. Layla Tarraf was the first to the ball before Erica Mysko got a foot to it and found Danica Pullishy, who hammered home her first career goal to make it 1-0.

The score would stay that way until just after halftime. Mykena Walker made a nice run down the right sideline, and got on the end of a ball from Grace Moore. Walker took a touch and sent in a beautiful, arching ball that fell to the feet of Jaden Tomaszewski, who one-timed it back across the frame of goal for her first career goal in just the 48th minute to make it 2-0.

Still not satisfied, the Dinos continued to apply pressure and struck again just over three minutes later. UBCO once again was attempting to play the ball from the back, only to have pressure by the Calgary attack create issues. This time it was Isabella DiPalma starting and finishing the moment, netting her second goal of the year in the 51st to stretch the Dinos lead to 3-0.

French was called upon to make a pair of nice saves down the stretch in closing out the win for the Scarlet & Golf.

The two teams finished deadlocked in shots for the game at 9-9, while Calgary finished with a 6-2 edge in shots on goal.

Up next, the Dinos make the short drive to Kamloops for another 8:30 p.m. MT contest on Saturday, this time against Thompson Rivers.
