CALGARY – The Calgary Dinos men's hockey team will look to defend their Canada West title, starting Sept. 28 with a home contest against MacEwan it was announced Tuesday with the complete conference schedule release by the Canada West office.
The 2023-24 season starts with a home-and-home against MacEwan, opening the season on Thursday, Sept. 28 inside Father David Bauer Arena, before a trip to Edmonton one day later.
Calgary's first full homestand comes one week later, hosting Trinity Western Oct. 6-7.
The first installment of the Crowchild Classic series kicks off Oct. 13-14, with the first contest at home, before another home-and-home series, this time against Alberta Oct. 20-21, starting in Edmonton.
The Dinos first trip outside the province comes with a four-game swing to the east, first heading to Regina Nov. 3-4 before taking on the Huskies one week later (Nov. 10-11) in Saskatchewan.
A four-game homestand follows against Manitoba (Nov. 17-18) and UBC (Nov. 24-25), before the first semester closes out on the road with the first return trip of the season, heading to Trinity Western Dec. 1-2.
The New Year kicks off with two more series against the provincial rivals from the north, starting against MacEwan (Jan. 5-6) before again taking on the Golden Bears (Jan. 12-13).
A quick trip to Manitoba is up next Jan. 19-20, before the regular season closes out with four straight in town. The final Crowchild Classic series is set for Jan. 26-27. After a bye week, Regina comes to FDB Feb. 9-10 to wrap up the 28-game regular season.
The top-six teams once again will qualify for the postseason, with the top-two squads advancing straight to the semifinals. Canada West quarterfinal action is scheduled for Feb. 16-18, with the semifinals slated for Feb. 23-25 and the final March 1-3.
This year's U SPORTS national championship is set for March 15-18, hosted this year in Toronto by TMU.
Calgary is coming off an incredible season that saw them not only claim the ninth conference title in program history, but also rattle off a program-record 25-3 regular season mark. The Dinos were ranked the No. 1 team in Canada the majority of the season and finished last season on a 23-game Canada West winning streak.
