Game Recap: Men's Hockey | | Trinity Western Communications

Joseph's winner lifts Dinos past former team

ALDERGROVE, B.C. – The University of Calgary Dinos men's hockey team raced out to a three-goal lead and eventually held on for a 4-2 win over the Trinity Western Spartans on Friday night at the Aldergrove Credit Union Community Centre.

Spartans netminder Raphael Audet made 50 saves, keeping the home side in a game that saw Calgary outshoot TWU 54-18.

The Dinos were dominant from the outset, outshooting the Spartans 23-4 in the opening 20 minutes and staking themselves to a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission. Jake Poole opened the scoring at 4:19 of the first period before Adam Kydd doubled the visitor's lead beating Audet on his glove side after a nifty in-tight dangle off the rush.

The second period started with more of the same, with Jadon Joseph scoring a long-awaited first goal of the season to make it 3-0 at 7:42 over his former team. However, the Spartans made it a game late, with Skyler Cameron tallying his second of the season at 16:08. Then, with just 47 seconds left in the frame, Christian Lowe scored his second of the year to close to gap to just one goal, 3-2, heading to the third period.

Colson Gengenbach's conference-leading 13th goal of the season at 11:35 of the third period provided Calgary with insurance.

Carl Stankowski made 16 saves for the win.

The Dinos got seven power play opportunities, but TWU held them off the scoreboard with the man advantage. TWU had just one power play and was unable to capitalize.

The rematch will be Saturday afternoon, with TWU hosting Calgary at 2 p.m. MT at the Langley Events Centre.
