Dinos complete road sweep of Cougars

Regina, Sask. – Three goals in just over two minutes in the second period helped the University of Calgary Dinos men's hockey team to a 4-2 win versus the Regina Cougars on Saturday at The Co-operators Centre.

With the game tied 1-1, Riley Stotts, Tyson Upper, and Zach Wytinck each found the back of the net within a 2:13 span to put the Dinos ahead by three.

Calgary now sits at 7-2-1 following their third weekend sweep of the season, while Regina drops to 2-6-2.

Marty Westhaver got the scoring started for a second consecutive night. Taking the puck on the right side, he quickly worked his way around the back of the net before tucking in a wraparound attempt at 14:29 of the first period.

Kade Runke scored on a nice feed from Logan Barlage to tie the game five minutes into the second stanza.

From there the floodgates opened for Calgary.

Stotts and Upper both found goals off scrambly plays in front of the crease where the Cougars defence was unable to clear the puck. Wytinck then made it a three-goal cushion as a quick release handcuffed Regina goaltender Adam Evanoff and got through him.

The Cougars brought the deficit back to two when Jayden Davis tucked in a rebound in the final minutes of the second period – but that was as close as they came.

The Dinos outshot the Cougars 16-3 in the final period as they kept Evanoff busy all night. The Regina puck stopper turned away 40 of 44 shots, while Carl Tetachuk made 15 saves on 17 chances in the Calgary net.

The Dinos will return to Saskatchewan next weekend as they travel to Saskatoon to face the Huskies from Nov. 10-11.
