Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Huskies Communications

Dinos dominate to claim sweep of Huskies

SASKATOON – One night after a tight comeback win, the University of Calgary Dinos men's basketball team would need no such heroics in Saturday's rematch with the University of Saskatchewan in a convincing 78-61 win inside the Physical Activity Complex on the U of S campus.

With the weekend sweep, the Dinos improve to .500 on the young season at 4-4, while the Huskies fall to 4-4.

Javier Ramos-Yzquierdo finished one rebound shy of a double-double with 14 points, nine rebounds and three steals to lead the way for Calgary. Nate Petrone finished with a team-high 19 points. Dylan Lutes tallied double digits for the first time as a Dino with 13 points, four rebounds and four steals, while Spencer Roberts added 10 points and eight boards.

Tyrese Potoma finished with 17 points to lead the way for the Huskies.

After a slow start by both squads, the Dinos used a 12-0 run to span the first and second quarters to build a 20-11 edge with 8:33 to go in the first half. Back-to-back three-pointers by Petrone and Lutes stretched the lead to 14, which Calgary would maintain with a 39-25 advantage at halftime.

The Dinos dominated the third quarter – at one point holding a 27-point lead after a triple from Martynys Sabaliauskas with 2:01 left in the frame.

Saskatchewan found new energy with the game already all but sealed up, going on a 10-point scoring run late in the third to cut the deficit to just 17, but Calgary never took their foot off the lead before finishing with the 17-point win.

The Huskies finished the night with a 23-10 edge in fast-break points, while the Dinos dominated down low with a remarkable 46-24 advantage in points in the paint.

After two weeks in the Prairies, the Dinos finally return home – closing out the first semester with a Battle for Alberta showdown with the Golden Bears Friday and Saturday inside the Jack Simpson Gym.
