Dinos finish off sweep of Huskies

SASKATOON – Behind five goals from five different Dinos, the No. 6 University of Calgary men's hockey team won its fourth game in a row Saturday with a 5-3 final tally over the No. 7 Saskatchewan Huskies.

Saturday's win comes one day after a 5-2 win over the Huskies to complete the weekend road sweep and move the Dinos to 9-2-1 on the year. Meanwhile, Saskatchewan has now dropped three in a row after starting the year winning its first nine games and now sits at 9-3.

In a repeat from Friday night, Calgary was the first to hit the scoreboard after Arjun Atwal beat Huskies goaltender Jordan Kooy to the far side with a quick wrap-around the Huskies net just 3:16 into the game.

A turnover at the Huskies blueline would see Adam Kydd find the back of the net, extending the Dinos lead to 2-0 just over nine minutes into the first.

Calgary would continue to dominate, keeping the play consistently in the Huskies' end. Riley Stotts would tally another goal for the Dinos before the end of the first, making it a 3-0 game at the first intermission.

After going scoreless in the first period, Cade Hayes put the Huskies on the board with a quick pass from Carter Stebbings and a smooth tap-in over the Dinos goal line.

The Huskies put the game within one late in the second with a one-timer in front of the net from Justin Ball on the 4-on-3, his fourth of the season, making it 3-2 with just over five minutes left in the period.

But Calgary answered right back to re-take a take a two-goal lead with just 2:30 left in the second with Dylan Anderson's first career goal, assisted by Jake Poole and Connor Gutenberg – the third assist of the night for Gutenberg.

Taking advantage of Stebbings' double-minor for kneeing at the end of the second and coming into the third on the power-play, Jake Poole scored his fourth of the season and his second of the series to make it a 5-2 game.

With five minutes left to play, Stebbings would put in the Huskies' third of the night and pull the Huskies back within two.

Despite the Huskies final efforts, with an extra attacker, the Dinos would secure their second win of the weekend, sweeping the series over the Huskies.

Up next, Calgary returns home for the first time in nearly a month, hosting Manitoba for a pair of games at Father David Bauer Arena, starting Friday. Meanwhile, the Huskies are on the road next weekend to take on the league-leading UBC Thunderbirds for another heavyweight battle in Vancouver.
