Dinos sweep Huskies to make it three in a row

SASKATOONVictor Gouttin and Gianmarco Plenzik both scored in the first half as the University of Calgary Dinos men's soccer team took down the University of Saskatchewan Huskies for the second time in a week with a 2-1 win Saturday afternoon from Griffiths Stadium.

Saturday's game was the rescheduled date of a game originally set for Sept. 1, but was postponed at that time due to poor air quality.

The win is now the third in a row for the surging Dinos as they continue their push for a playoff spot with just three games left in the regular season.

Calgary (4-5-2) opened the scoring action with a header from Victor Goutton (23'). They were quick to follow up and add to their lead with a penalty kick goal by Giamarco Plenzik (29').

Though the Dinos got off to a fast start, the Huskies carried the play in the 2nd half and outshot Calgary 16-4 in the match.

Diego Reveco got the Dogs on the board with an unassisted goal in the 43rd minute that sent the teams into the second half 2-1 in favour of the Dinos.

The scoring would stop after Reveco's goal, and the rest of the game fell into the hands of two dominant defenses and ultimately in favour of the Dinos.

Liam Hunter finshed the day making six saves for his third win in a row for Calgary, while Jaron Slopinski was credited with a pair of saves for Saskatchewan.

Calgary now moves to 79-27-17 all-time against the Huskies, including going 5-0-1 since 2019.

Saskatchewan is back at home next weekend as they will host the Lethbridge Pronghorns Saturday at 7 p.m. Meanwhile, Calgary continues its four-game road trip to finish the season, heading to Edmonton to take on MacEwan (Saturday) and Alberta (Sunday).
