CALGARY – Facing her former team for the first time, fifth-year goaltender
Dayna Owen made 18 saves for the University of Calgary Dinos women's hockey team in a 1-0 setback to the University of Alberta Pandas on Saturday night at Father David Bauer Arena.
Owen played four seasons for Alberta before transferring to UCalgary and spent three years with the Dinos. She was one of six graduating Dinos to be honoured before puck drop in their final collegiate game. The Dinos also recognized
Taylor Beck,
Jordyn Burgar,
Sage Desjardins,
Holly Reuther, and team captain
Rachel Paul.
"Those are really important women in our room," said Calgary bench boss
Carla MacLeod. "They've been nothing but tremendous, and it's a testament to them and the impact that they've had.
"We're really proud of them, our next goal is that they are proud of us when they watch future Dinos."
After tallying her first goal of the season – the game-winner on Friday night – Stephanie Fischer was once again the hero for Pandas with the lone goal at 8:34 of the third period. Taylor Anker and Kallie Clouston picked up assists on the play.
Halle Oswald wrapped up an impressive weekend performance in the Alberta net with a 27-save shutout.
The Dinos finish the 2021-22 Canada West regular season with a 7-13-0-0 record, falling short of the final playoff spot by four points. The Pandas earned a 13-5-1-1 record and will get set to host a quarter-final series against the Regina Cougars next weekend.
