CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos men's hockey team saw five players find the back of the net to hand the University of Saskatchewan their first defeat of the season, cruising to a 5-2 win Saturday evening from Father David Bauer Arena.

After a low-scoring affair in Friday's opener, the Dinos offence erupted for three goals in just over two minutes early in the second period and putting a stranglehold on this one, moving to 2-2 on the young season. With the loss, the Huskies fall to 3-1.

After a scoreless opening frame, things heated up in a hurry early in the second. 

"We had a good response in the second and third period," Calgary head coach Mark Howell said. "We started competing and got some will, we moved the puck simpler and capitalized." 

Zach Wytinck scored the Dinos first goal this game just 4:17 into the second period. With a 4-on-2 Dinos attack, Tyson Upper sent a perfect centering puck front just in front of the blue line. Wytinck one-timed it from the center of the zone to get the scoring started. 

Josh Maser followed Wytinck's goal with his own less than a minute later. Connor Horning put a shot on net, with the rebound bouncing around in front of the crease before Maser got his stick to it to make it 2-0 just 39 seconds later.

Less than two minutes later, Jake Gricius got in on the action. The second year from Colorado Springs, Colorado, found an open spot and wristed Riley Stotts' pass into the back of the net to suddenly make it 3-0 just 6:39 into the second.

The Huskies Vince Loschiavo was able to get one back for his squad on a power play near the end of the second period. Following a pass from Connor Hobbs, Loschiavo placed the puck in the top left corner over Carl Tetachuk's shoulder to give the visiting team new life.

But the Dinos responded. With just under two minutes left before intermission, Marty Westhaver scored his first goal of the season to give Calgary a three-goal cushion once again heading into the third.

Midway through the final frame, Saskatchewan once again made the most of a man advantage as Liam Keeler scored to cut the gap to 4-2 with just under 10 minutes left.

But the Dinos defence did its just job from there on out before Upper added an empty netter to finish off the weekend homestand in style.

Both the Dinos and Huskies played different goalies this game than Friday's contest. Tetachuk had a total of 42 saves on the night, while Jordan Kooy finished with 20. 

Up next, the Dinos will face off against the Mount Royal Cougars for the Crowchild Classic next weekend splitting the game's locations.

Meanwhile, the Huskies will travel to Vancouver to play against the UBC Thunderbirds.
